Program Overview

The Pathology Scholars Program provides medical students with a free, hands-on introduction to anatomic and clinical pathology through real slide interpretation, shadowing experiences, and educational content. Participants complete structured learning activities and develop a capstone project in a pathology topic of interest.

The program is designed to help students explore pathology as a career and understand the role of pathology across medical specialties.

Who Can Participate
  • Medical students enrolled in a U.S. MD or DO program (M1–M4)
  • Graduate students may also be considered
  • Particularly valuable for students interested in pathology, radiology, dermatology, internal medicine, and surgical specialties
Program Requirements

Students interested in joining the program must submit:

  1. Letter of good standing
  2. Faculty letter of recommendation
  3. Personal statement

Virtual Education Modules 10 hours
Shadowing Experiences 4 hours
Hands-On Activities 3 hours
Capstone Project 4 hours
Estimated Total Time 21 hours
Certificate & Awards

Students who complete the program will receive a Pathology Scholars Certificate of Completion.

Students may also earn a certificate with concentration in a specific pathology area if they:

  • Complete ≥6 hours of content in that area
  • Perform ≥1 shadowing experience in that area
  • Complete their capstone project in that topic

Annual awards include:

  • Best Capstone
  • Best Subspecialty Capstone
